Thanks to her brother Jacob, Eliza Christianson's young life has been anything but dull. At 17 she helped him solve a brutal murder within their conservative polygamous community, and later she supported him when he was recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a dangerous cult. Now it's Eliza's turn to make her mark - a woman comes to Eliza after her daughter is recruited by a doomsday cult led by a man called "The Disciple". In a strange twist of fate, one of the only leads is David, Jacob and Eliza's brother, who was shunned by their church.
Eliza sets out to convince David to help her navigate the cult and stage a rescue. Her daring plan takes her to the Las Vegas desert where The Disciple is waiting....
Provocative and engrossing, The Wicked is a view behind the veil of religious fanaticism as seen through the eyes of an extraordinary heroine.
The Wicked Righteous Series Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Wallace Arielle DeLisle Brilliance Audio Books
If you have enjoyed reading the Michael Wallace series, "The Righteous," you will definitely enjoy reading the third book in the series, "Wicked." Dr. Jacob Christensen was born and raised in the polygamist cult known as the Righteous in Southwestern America. In the fictional community of Blister Creek, he lives there with his wife, Fern, and others. Torn between his devotion to his religion and his dislike of polygamy, Jacob is a complicated figure of a man who becomes an unwilling leader to the Righteous. In the third book of the series, Eliza, Jacob's feisty independent sister, takes on another cult looking for a missing girl. Eliza is unlike most female characters in the community. She has bolted from the polygamy and sought education. She seeks the missing woman with resilience and typical feistiness. I couldn't get Miriam who joins into the community.
I was surprised to see how much that I enjoyed reading about the Righteous series even with my disagreement about polygamy. I found Michael Wallace's series to be refreshing and well-developed. The characters like Jacob, Miriam, Eliza and Fern are very well-developed into multi-dimensional characters. While I have a hard time with the rapture and the apocalyptic scenario, I enjoyed reading about the Kimbles, Christensens and Blister Creek.
If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, you will definitely want to read third and the entire series of the Righteous. I am surprised that Hollywood hasn't come knocking on Michael Wallace's door to get this series into a movie or television deal. I would definitely watch it.

The Wicked Righteous Series Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Wallace Arielle DeLisle Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
Definitely, a page turner, The Wicked, #3 in the Righteous series, is farfetched in some areas, but suspenseful & exciting. The violence & sex in The Wicked might be a turn off for some. Eliza Christianson infiltrates into a cult which is waiting for the world to end. The Disciple of this cult is mentally ill, cruel & just plain evil.
The Righteous series covers several fictional sects of the Mormon Church and some cults too. Certain members of the Christianson & Kimball families are main characters in each book.
Michael Wallace is an excellent storyteller. I've read the first three books in this series now and found the stories to be exciting page-turners with enough twists & turns to keep them interesting. By the way, each of these 3 books can stand on its own, but I'm glad I read them to get the full depth of the main characters, Jacob & Eliza Christianson.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, The Blessed and the Damned (Righteous Series #4), which will be released in October.
I'll admit it, this series has really captured my imagination. The unique characters and the author's insightful and well thought out way of handling the religious and philosophical questions that arise in his stories have resulted in novels that are engrossing and highly entertaining. I was glad to see Eliza take the forefront in this latest installment, and was amazed at how much she has grown as a character. It is important to read the first two books in this series in order to fully appreciate the circumstances which led these characters to the events in The Wicked. In this novel, the action is even more intense and the danger is even greater as we leave the world of religion behind and enter the world of the full blown cult.
This book is certainly darker and edgier than the first two installments. The author's portrayal of mental illness and his spot on pacing made for a truly creepy read that had me glued to the page. I truly hope this series keeps going, as the characters are just so well done and intriguing that I can't wait to see what happens to them next. The window is open for another installment as the reader is left wondering at intrigues still to be revealed. A recommend for any fan of suspense fiction willing to be challenged by a unique perspective.
In The Wicked (Righteous Series #3) by Michael Wallace we again have the Christianson's pitted against the Kimball's. This time our main characters are Eliza who sets off to retrieve a kidnapped/brainwashed girl who has been abducted by The Disciple (Caleb Kimball)
Eliza infiltrates the Doomsday cult to find the followers are wayward youth who are being starved and sexually abused under the guise of purification, sanctification and cleansing.
Former FBI agent Sister Miriam goes to Las Vegas in an attempt to bring David Christianson back into the fold after the unconvinced and devious patriarch Abraham Christianson reluctantly agrees to lift his ban on the boy. In this book Jacob becomes a secondary character along with is wife Fernie leaving the heavy lifting to his sister, Eliza.
At the end of the book the reader realizes there may be more to the feud between the two families than meets the eye. Who can be trusted? Who can't?
The Wicked leads us into the desert compounds of polygamist sects of the Mormons and has us asking more questions than are answered. Again, this is an entertaining book on many levels and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
