Does Jack Dexter, a hot teenager in high school, build up the guts to come out of the closet? See for yourself. Jack doesn’t want to be known as the gay kid and his worst nightmare is that he’ll lose all of his friends if they ever found out he was gay. The problem is, Jack can no longer resist his sexual urges. “Porn only takes me so far,” Jack says and he proceeds to download a handful of gay sex apps.

This is a novelised autobiography of sorts, it is generally well written -a couple of flashbacks are confusing enough and typesetting generally does not help-, it has just a small number of typos (aloud insted of allowed, for example) and it has a fast rhythm so that, despite its being long, it reads really fast.My problem is that I could never relate to the lead: he is not just young and in the closet -that I could relate very well with- but also in denial, self hating and drifting through a meaningless life full of drug, alcohol and empty relationships. Such self denial is obviously bound to cripple him emotionally but he looks like he has no inner life, no hobby, not a dream, not a goal in his life, not even a silly one like becoming a world famous pop star.
I could not identify with him and neither could I feel any empathy so this work just has no appeal for me.

The Adventures of Jack Dexter edition by EJ Henry Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
loved this book. it made me laugh a lot. and it shows that you have to love yourself gay or not. don't let people make you who your not.
Boy did this book catch me by surprise. Just when I thought I'd heard my fair share of coming out stories (to the point of being numb to them), I finished this story and was brought back a decade to my own experience. There were times where I laughed, was sad and yes, got aroused (hey can't blame me, the sex scenes ARE sexy). More than that, I care about Jack - the character- and where he goes from here. Sure some moments you wanna slap in across the head, but no differently than the friends you have in real life. This is a truthful, authentic story of finding yourself under all the layers of pride, sadness, and shame. It's the type of story you wish you a character in and I am excited for a future installment.
It wasn't my cup of tea, I guess. Just felt like the guy was blathering on. I wanted humor, plot, something worth my time, but this just wasn't it. I went to chapter 3 then deleted it from my .
This is a book for those who do not wish to get caught in heavy drama, as well as for those who wish not the heavy literature stuff. It is simple. It has easy plots, although somewhere at the end, the ending is quite abrupt. Some parts of the book did make me smile (not laugh). This book has the feel of Adrian-Mole wannabe although it is not as humorous as AM series. A little too often on the weed stuff but I appreciate how the author is willing to get into kinky moments - no holding back. I am still a little uneasy on how easy the book was ended.
I was frustrated with this book at times but when I reached the end I just sat there stunned. By the end the. Review went from 2 stars to 4 stars. Give it a chance. You will laugh and maybe even cry.
The author has a knack for writing dialog that is at once crisp and believable. If reading the dialog aloud, it sounds like real people talking. While the lead character is not very likable, I don't think the author intended readers to like Jack. To the contrary, I think the author wanted readers to understand how living a very public lie takes a toll on all aspects of the lead character's existence. By the end of the book, the reader has hope for Jack because Jack, for the first time in his 20-years on the planet, has been honest with himself. And, he is starting to be honest with others. By the end of reading the list of lessons Jack has learned, the reader sees that Jack is evolving and becoming a much more sympathetic character who, ultimately, will be a likable young man.
The only criticism I can offer is that this talented author deserves a good editor and a good proofreader--something every writer requires. Unfortunately, with self-publishing, there are rarely the financial resources available for hiring editors and proofreaders. Despite the absence of the polish that editors and proofreaders could provide this novel, the author unquestionably has a distinct voice and an interesting story to share. I'd readily purchase more of his work, should it become available. The sexual content is not graphic, nor very explicit. The author should be lauded for handling the subject matter of teen sex in a sensitive, erotic, but not graphic, manner. Oh, and I'm going to follow him on Twitter. ;-)
Being someone who has gone through a similar situation I thought this was an awesome read. For me this book painted a picture of the events in jacks teenage years to the point where I could picture the scenes. Each experience he went through touched me in a special way because they were either similar, or the same as mine. At times the book made you feel bad for Jack to the point of being emotional, made you want to beat Jack, and and even made you feel the sexual connection that Jack was having, or fantasizing about. All in all I feel this book is trying to portray that you should always be true to who you are, and be yourself. If you are not happy with yourself you can never be happy with anything around you.
